The Institute of History and Ethnology of I. Javakhishvili Tbilisi State University, in collaboration with the NAS RA Institute of History and various European academic institutions, organised an international scientific conference titled “National Liberation and Anti-Soviet Movements in the Caucasus and East-Central Europe during the post-Versailles Period”.
The event took place in Tbilisi from October 3-5 and marked the centenary of the 1924 Anti-Soviet Uprising in Georgia. Scholars from numerous research and educational institutions in Georgia, Armenia, the United States, Poland, Ukraine, and Finland participated in this highly regarded conference.
Representing the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia, Academician Dr․ Hist. Sci. Ashot Melkonyan and Harutyun Khudanyan, a researcher of the Department of Ancient History, actively contributed to the conference. A. Melkonyan’s presentation, delivered in Georgian and entitled “The Anti-Soviet Struggle for the Independence of Armenia (1920-1921)”, was met with great interest and garnered special recognition from the attendees. Additionally, the Director of the “Geghard” Foundation, R. Ghazaryan, from the NAS RA Institute of Oriental Studies, was in attendance, while G. Margaryan, a scholar from the same institute and foundation, presented a joint paper co-authored with researcher T. Baiburdyan.
The directors of the Institute of History at Tbilisi State University and the Institute of History at the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia concluded the conference by outlining a plan for future collaboration aimed at strengthening the ties between the two institutions.
