Academician Ashot Melkonian made a report at an international scientific conference in St Petersburg

An international conference attended by representatives of 18 countries was held in St Petersburg on 29-30 September 2022. The conference was dedicated to the problems of history teaching in school textbooks. Academician Alexander Chubaryan, Academic Director of the Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, as well as representatives of the St. Petersburg authorities spoke at the opening of the conference.

International Conference: "Cilician Armenians in 1908-1922

On 4 October 2022, the international conference "Armenians of Cilicia in 1908-1922" was held in the conference hall of the Institute of History of the National Academy of the Republic of Armenia.  The conference was organized by the initiative of the Department of New Ages of NAS RA.

Director of the Institute of History of NAS RA, academician Ashot Melkonyan made a welcoming speech to the participants.

 

BOOK PRESENTATION

The presentation of the book “Call Me Spring” (a novel about Armenia and Armenians) by linguist, publicist Vesna Pesic (Serbia) – director of the Belgrade “Pesic and Sons” publishing house, took place in the conference hall of the NAS RA Institute of History.

CONFERENCE AT THE NAS RA

On September 22, “The 135th Anniversary of the Social Democrat Hunchakian Party (SDHP): from the Liberation Struggle to the Independent Statehood” scientific conference jointly organized by the NAS RA Institute of History and the SDHP was held at the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia.

INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE DEDICATED TO THE 75TH ANNIVERSARY OF KAREN JEPPE ARMENIAN COLLEGE IN ALEPPO

The Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia organizes an international conference titled “Foreign Sources on Armenian Settlements-Communities” It is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the founding of Karen Jeppe Armenian College in Aleppo. The conference is scheduled to take place on November 4, 2022.

Those wishing to take part in the conference should submit abstracts of up to 1 page to the Department of History of Armenian Settlements and Diaspora of the NAS of RA, including the topic of the paper, name of the participant, as well as the institution that the speaker represents. (Independent researchers may also participate). The participants, whose papers are chosen by the Organizing Committee will be informed within 10 days after receipt of their papers.

Visit of RA NAS delegation to the Republic of Artsakh

On August 23-25, the RA NAS delegation with the participation of directors of six academic institutes and led by NAS President Ashot Saghyan visited the Republic of Artsakh. The delegation visited the Holy Ascension Church in Berdzor, had meetings with the staff of the Artsakh Scientific Center, and the official circles of the republic.

MEMORANDUM OF COOPERATION

On May 31 of this year, a memorandum of scientific cooperation was signed between the NAS RA Institute of History and the Institute of Ancient Manuscripts named after K. Kekelidze of Georgia. For the strengthening and development of Armenian-Georgian scientific relations, Mr. Abashidze – the Director of the Institute of Ancient Manuscripts after K. Kekelidze, awarded Harutyun Khudanyan, researcher of the Institute of History, an honorary gift – a badge of the same institute.

  

THE 42TH SCIENTIFIC SESSION OF YOUNG HISTORIANS

On July 11-12, 2022, the regular 42nd scientific session of young researchers took place in the meeting hall of the NAS RA Institute of History. In addition to the institute’s young employees, post-graduate students and applicants, the conference was also attended by representatives from AGMI, YSPU, YSU, Scientific Information Analysis and Monitoring Center of the NAS RA.

THE 800TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE FOUNDATION OF KHORANASHAT MONASTIC COMPLEX

This year marks the 800th anniversary of the foundation of Khoranashat monastic complex. On this occasion, on May 28, in St. Astvatatsin Church of Khoranashat, the leader of the Diocese of Tavush, His Grace Bishop Bagrat Galstanyan, offered a Holy and Immortal Liturgy. For this purpose, the “Gospel of Khoranashat” dated 1224, kept in the Mashtots Matenadaran, was brought to the monastic complex. On the same day, in the village of Chinari, and the next day in St. Harutyun Church of Berd a religious ceremony was performed with the “Gospel of Khoranashat”.

BOOK PRESENTATION

On May 20 of this year, the presentation of Albert Kharatyan’s book entitled “Armenian colonies of Smyrna and the Aegean Coast (16th - mid 19th c.)” was held in the NAS RA meeting hall.

The Institute of History of the NAS RA hosted Igor Vladimir Kryuchkov – Head of the Chair of Foreign History, Political Science and International Relations at the North Caucasus Federal University of the Russian Federation

On May 3, the Institute of History of the NAS RA hosted Doctor of Sciences in History, Prof. Igor Vladimir Kryuchkov – the Head of the Chair of Foreign History, Political Science and International Relations of the North Caucasus Federal University of the Russian Federation, who participated in scientific-educational events.

ROUND TABLE-DISCUSSION IN MOSCOW

Researcher of the NAS RA Institute of History, Candidate of Historical Sciences, Associate Professor Sargis Grigoryan participated in a round table discussion organized by the “Russian Council on International Affairs” and “Dialogue” NGO in Moscow delivering a report entitled “Current manifestations of Islamic extremism in the Caucasus as a threat to Armenia and Russia”.

Sargis Grigoryan referred to the use of foreign mercenaries by Turkey and Azerbaijan in the 44-day war, emphasizing that their involvement in the war is a threat not only to Armenia, but to the entire Caucasus region, extra-regional processes and security.

 

Ceremonies of the 107th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in Tehran

The ceremony of the 107th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in Tehran started with the lighting of candles on the evening of April 23 from the yard of St. Sargis Cathedral. On the morning of April 24, a liturgy was served, flowers were laid at the memorial to the victims of the Armenian Genocide, and at 7.30 pm, a mourning ceremony was held in Tehran’s famous “Ararat” sport complex with the participation of thousands of Iranian-Armenians. The speaker of the day was the director of the Institute of History of NAS RA, Academician Ashot Melkonyan. The Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Republic of Armenia to the Islamic Republic of Iran, Prof. Arsen Avagyan and the Primate of the Diocese of the Armenian Church in Tehran, His Grace Archbishop Sepuh Sargsyan rendered speeches. The local youth structures performed artistic performances. The event was attended also by the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the Russian Federation to Iran Levon Chagaryan, members of the Iranian Parliament, representatives of numerous Iranian-Armenian organizations.

ANOTHER BOOK PRESENTATION AT THE DEPARTMENT OF THE “HISTORY OF ARMENIAN COLONIES AND DIASPORA”

On March 11, the Department of the “History of Armenian Colonies and Diaspora” of the Institute of History hosted a presentation of the recently published work in Russian “From the History of Armenian Charity in Tiflis (Second Half of the 19th Century)” by Ruzan Gagik Sargsyan of blessed memory – an employee of the department. Employees of the Institute of History and Ruzan Sargsyan’s relatives and friends were present.

    

SCIENTIFIC-PRACTICAL CONFERENCE AT THE INSTITUTE OF HISTORY

On the joint initiative of the NAS RA Institute of History, “Against Legal Arbitrariness” NGO and the “Center for Human Rights and Genocide Studies” NGO, “Maragha 30: an unpunished and ongoing genocide” scientific-practical conference was held at the Conference Hall of the NAS RA Presidium.
