BOOK PRESENTATION

On 6 May 2018, the presentation of the book Where? by Kolya Stepanyan, a participant in the 44-day Artsakh War, was held in the conference hall of the Presidium of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia.

INSTITUTE DELEGATION ATTENDS INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCES ON THE EMERGING GLOBAL ORDER AND THE 110TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE ARMENIAN GENOCIDE, MOSCOW, 24 APRIL

On 24 April, the final session of the conference dedicated to the new world order was held in the conference hall of the “President” Hotel, under the chairmanship of Academician Alexander Chubaryan, President of the Association of Historical Institutes of the CIS Countries, with the participation of specialists from numerous countries. Professor Viktor Ishchenko addressed the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide in his speech, noting that the parliaments of approximately thirty countries, including the State Duma of the Russian Federation, have recognised and condemned this grave crime. He conveyed condolences to the Armenian delegation on behalf of the conference participants and the Russian public.

  

Two-Day International Conference “The National Awakening of the Armenian People and the Process of International Recognition of the Armenian Genocide” Concludes

At the initiative of the Department of the History of the Armenian Question and the Armenian Genocide of the NAS RA Institute of History, an international conference entitled “The National Awakening of the Armenian People and the Process of International Recognition of the Armenian Genocide” was held in Yerevan on 22–23 April, 2025. The conference was dedicated to a comprehensive examination of the national awakening and the popular movement that took place in Soviet Armenia and the Diaspora in 1965, on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide.

THE DIRECTOR OF THE INSTITUTE, A. MELKONYAN, AND THE DEPUTY DIRECTOR, K. KHACHATRYAN, PARTICIPATED IN THE INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE DEDICATED TO THE 80TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE VICTORY IN THE GREAT PATRIOTIC WAR AND THE SECOND WORLD WAR, HELD IN MOSCOW ON 22–2

On 22–23 April, an international conference marking the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War and the Second World War was held in Moscow. The event was organised at the initiative of the Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences, with the participation of scholars from over twenty countries.

Memorandum of Cooperation

On 10 April of this year, a Memorandum of Cooperation was signed between the NAS RA Institute of History and the Institute of Ancient History and Ancient Near Eastern Studies at the University of Innsbruck, Austria. The cooperation encompasses the organisation of joint conferences, the publication of scholarly works, the exchange of researchers, and a number of other initiatives aimed at the comprehensive study of the history of Ancient Armenia.

Cooperation Agreement

The Director of the NAS RA Institute of History, A. Melkonyan, and the Director of the Kalmyk Scientific Centre of the Russian Academy of Sciences, V. V. Kukanova, signed a cooperation agreement between their respective institutions. The agreement aims to facilitate long-term scientific research.

Anniversary Event at the Institute of History

A jubilee meeting dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the distinguished researcher of the NAS RA Institute of History, Cd. Hist. Sci., Associate Professor Gohar Derenik Vardumyan, was held in the conference hall of the Presidium of the NAS RA.

Cooperation Agreement

On 25 February, a cooperation agreement was signed between the NAS RA Institute of History and the Italian Association for Mediterranean and Oriental Studies (ISMEO). 

Invitation to Participate in the International Conference

    The Department of the History of the Armenian Question and the Armenian Genocide at the Institute of History of the National Academy of Sciences of the Republic of Armenia invites scholars to participate in the international conference entitled “The National Awakening of the Armenian People as the Catalyst for International Recognition and Condemnation of the Armenian Genocide, to be held on 22–23 April 2025.

      The aim of the conference is to comprehensively study and publicize the process of international recognition and condemnation of the crime committed against the Armenian people, with a particular focus on the national awakening that began in Soviet Armenia and the Diaspora in 1965 on the 50th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide. The conference will also highlight the historical, legal, and political dimensions of this process, as well as the prospects for the restoration of justice.

Lecture at the NAS RA Institute of History

A lecture titled “The Origin of Armenians from the Perspective of Genetics” was held in the conference hall of the NAS RA Institute of History, delivered by Dr. Levon Yepiskoposyan, Doctor of Biological Sciences, Professor, and Head of the Laboratory at the NAS RA Institute of Molecular Biology.

International Conference Dedicated to the 100th Anniversary of Vardges Mikaelyan

A hybrid international conference titled “Historical Primary Sources on Armenian Settlements” was held in the conference hall of the NAS RA Institute of History, dedicated to the centenary of Vardges Mikaelyan. In addition to the Institute’s staff, participants included representatives from Egypt (Armine Hakobyan), the Czech Republic (Anna Karapetyan), and Romania (Arsen Arzumanyan).

International Conference: “Intercultural Dialogue as a Cornerstone of Peace in the Caucasus”

On November 14, the city of Stavropol in the Russian Federation hosted an international conference organised by the North Caucasus Federal University. The event gathered postgraduate students, master’s students, and undergraduates from Russia, Armenia, and Georgia.

Armenia was represented by the Director of the NAS RA Institute of History, Academician Ashot Melkonyan, and research fellow, Cd. Hist. Sci. Henrik Khachatryan; the Armenian State Pedagogical University after Khachatur Abovyan by Professor Khachatur Stepanyan and a group of students from the Faculty of History; and the National Archives of Armenia by Cd. Hist. Sci. Varditer Grigoryan. Delegates from Yerevan State University included students from the Faculties of History and International Relations.

INTERNATIONAL SCIENTIFIC CONFERENCE DEDICATED TO ISSUES IN THE HISTORY OF THE SECOND WORLD WAR

On 11–12 November, Moscow hosted the international scientific conference “1944 in the History of the Second World War,” organized by the Institute of World History of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Russian Military-Historical Society. The conference brought together prominent scholars from Russia, CIS countries, Europe, the United States, China, India, and Brazil. Academician Ashot Melkonyan, Director of the NAS RA Institute of, delivered a presentation titled “The Armenian People’s Contribution to the Battles for the Liberation of Eastern Europe in 1944.” Addressing the issue of the ongoing destruction of Soviet military monuments in certain countries, he noted that this situation has long been evident in the territories of Artsakh occupied by Azerbaijan from 2020 to 2023. There, in addition to numerous Armenian historical and cultural monuments, memorials to Armenian soldiers who fought in the Great Patriotic War have been destroyed, including those dedicated to Marshal Hovhannes (Ivan) Baghramyan, Marshal Hamazasp Babajanyan, Marshal Sergey Khudyakov (Khanperyants), and Nelson Stepanyan, a Shushi native and twice Hero of the Soviet Union.

Book Presentation

The NAS RA Institute of History hosted a presentation for the book Levon Gabriel Shaghoyan (1887-1974) by Seda Ohanyan, Cd. hist. sci., a researcher in the Department of the History of Armenian Colonies and the Diaspora.
